Capitol Area Council International Committee presents
JOTA-JOTA 2020 PASSPORT TO GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AND FRIENDSHIP
October 16th-18th, 2020
for all Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing, Sea Scout youth, siblings and parents/guardians
Did you know that Scouting is a worldwide youth movement with the goal of “Creating a Better World?” Or that there are about 28 million Scouts in 170 countries? And that on the third weekend in October every year, Scouts gather in an online jamboree called JOTA-JOTI? The Capitol Area Council International Committee invites our Scouting families to experience our multi-cultural connections through a weekend of fun, in-person and virtual events of global citizenship and friendship.
How it Works
Sign up for Your Passport to Global Citizenship and Friendship and SCOUTS: Creating a Better World T-Shirt. Participants will also receive a JOTA-JOTI 2020 patch in the mail after the event.
Your Passport will explain the weekend’s activities. Please see https://www.bsacac.org/activities/international/. Some of these include:
In Person Activities
- Sample food from an international restaurant
- Play an international game such as mancala or dominoes
- Experience international music
- Read a book about another country
- View a video of an international dish and make it at home
- Learn how to say “Be Prepared” in another language
- Walk or bike the Healthy Streets of Austin
- Participate in a service project at New Leaf Farm on October 17th from 9:00 am - noon (space limited to 15 Scouts ages 13+ and their families; signup required)
- Participate in a virtual cheese tasting of cheeses from seven countries (separate signup and fee of $20 required)
- Build a Habitat for Humanities Global Village Home out of Legos
- And more!
Online Activities
- Attend Facebook Live introduction to JOTA-JOTI on Friday, October 16th at 6:00 pm
- Use Minecraft to build a virtual Habitat for Humanity House in Sri Lanka
- Attend a virtual presentation on International Scouting
- Connect with Scouts from Kenya, Colombia, Mexico and more!
- Be recognized for your International Scouting Achievements at a ceremony on Sunday, October 18th at 6:00 pm for those earning the Messengers of Peace and International Spirit Awards
- Participate in a Citizenship in the World Merit Badge course (separate signup and $20 fee required)
During any and all activities, remember to follow the state, county or local COViD regulations. Be safe and remember to wash your hands, wear a mask and keep a distance of 6 ft between participants.
Cost
There is no cost to receive the Passport to Global Citizenship and Friendship and SCOUTS: Creating a Better World T-Shirt though you must meet the following requirements. You will be asked to compete a form outline your pledge plans in the registration.
1. Pledge to wear the shirt over the weekend;
2. Pledge to connect with a Scout from another country via the JOTA-JOTI website;
3. Pledge to complete at least one item on the Passport; and
4. Complete one of the following before receiving your Passport and T-shirt:
[ ] Make a donation of at least $5.00 to the World Friendship Fund
[ ] Make a donation of at least $5.00 to the Scouts COVID19 Relief Fund
[ ] Make a donation of at least $5.00 to purchase a book for the Little Free Library
[ ] Donate a book to the Little Free Library from the approved list (https://www.bookpeople.com/multi-cultural-books-for-little-library)
[ ] Purchase a World of Sound Kit for $10
[ ] Create a poster or flyer about Scouting in another country
[ ] Install the Scouts app on your phone. (Icon is the White Fleur de Lis and Purple Background). Read the first story that pops up.
[ ] Watch video at heforshe.org and Sign the #HeForShe Pledge (males)
[ ] Watch video at heforshe.org and share your knowledge of #HeForShe with family or friends (females)
[ ] Dedicate at least 1 hour to picking up trash in a public area. Provide documentation through a written explanation, photo or video
