Activity Dates: 8/28/2020 and continuing on 8/29/2020 

Age Requirement: 21 and older to be a Certified Shotgun Instructor. 

Limited Exception: Scouts under 21 who plan to work on the shotgun range at Lost Pines during summer camp may attend and be certified as assistant or apprentice instructors, only with the prior approval of Mr. Agnell.

Cost: $80.00

Pre-registration Requirement: Participants must have already taken the NRA Basic Instructor Training (BIT) and have experience at shooting shotguns.  If you are not already an NRA instructor or have not taken BIT, you can take the one day BIT training on July 25 at the Fickett center.  To register for BIT, go to:

Description: This course is for training and certification of NRA Shotgun Instructors. It includes both the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting and the NRA Shotgun Instructor Training.   

Class Size: This course is open to the first 20 who register. 


  • Friday 8/28/2020- 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm - Fickett Center
  • Saturday 8/29/2020- 8:30 am to 7:00 pm – Fickett Center
  • Saturday 9/12- 8:30 am to 7:00 pm –  Shotgun Range, Lost Pines Scout Reservation

What to Bring: On Saturday, 9/12,  If you own a 20 gauge shotgun, you can bring your shotgun, two boxes of ammunition and a cleaning kit. If you don't have a 20 gauge shotgun, we will have some council firearms available, but you will need to bring two boxes of 20 gauge ammunition (shot size 7 1/2 or 8).

NRA Certification Fee: After completing the course, there will be a fee to the NRA for certification.  The fee will be $30-$50 depending on whether or not you are a NRA member.
