Powder Horn is 6 full days – split across two weekends – focused entirely on high adventure activities available in the Scouting program. While many describe Powder Horn as “summer camp for adults” it also gives unit leaders valuable resources and practical how-to’s on building a quality program that will keep our youth engaged as you begin to compete with other activities and social pressures. You will get hands on experience on a wide variety of high adventure activities such as rappelling, scuba, ATVs, wilderness survival, mountain biking, astronomy, and all of the shooting sports (muzzle loaded rifles, pistol, archery) among other activities and informational sessions.

Recommended Attendees:

  1. Experienced Scout leaders that feel their unit is in a rut because they do the same activities on most campouts and summer camps. (Learn how to break the mold and design your own weekend or summer high adventure experience your Scouts will never forget.)
  2. New Scout leaders that may lack experience in high adventure. Powder Horn is an important part of the baseline training package.
  3. Youth leadership over the age of 14 that want to shake things up and bring new activities to their unit. (Letter of recommendation from unit leader required to attend.)
  4. Cub Scout parents preparing to cross over to Scouts.
    1. See what is possible and share with your youth to help motivate them to continue with the program.
    2. Find your niche and arrive at your new unit prepared to contribute.
  5. Leaders and youth preparing to start a new unit.
  6. Lastly, spouses. If your spouse has been sitting on the sidelines missing out on what Scouts has to offer, this is sure to spark their interest.
