The Hour of Code was developed by Code.org to help get youth learning to code for at least one hour.  And now our Council has joined this computer science movement.

During this Hour of Code event youth from all part of the Capitol Area Council, including Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturers, Sea Scouts, STEM Scouts, and Explorers, will spend one hour learning to code.   After this, they will learn to put together an app and prepare for the BSA Innovation Challenge.  This Challenge asks youth teams to create an app to help address a Sustainability problem in the world and could win your unit $2000.

Units and individuals can pick one of two ways to complete the Hour of Code and get info about the Hour of Code Scout Challenge:

  1. Attend one of the two Hour of Code event at the ACCelerator Lab (ACC Highland Campus, 6101 Airport Blvd) - 12/8/2018, 10AM -12Noon or 1PM-3PM, $5 per youth.  At this event, youth get to learn about coding from Computer experts from companies like Dell, Google, Atlassion and more.  Youth will earn a patch and snacks will be available.  Parents are invited to watch or hang out in the building during the event.
  2. Complete the Hour of Code at a unit meeting any time between 12/3/2018-12/8/2018 using the Hour of Code Activity Plan, $5 per youth.   For this version, leaders are asked to sign up as a units and specify the names of youth who will completing the activity.  Patches for the youth signed up can be picked up at the Scout Office (12500 North IH 35, Austin, TX 78753).
